More on the peacock. We have a wild peacock in the area and he was happily roaming around our garden today, thankfully outside of the electric fence as I'm not sure how the chickens would react if he decided to join them in the orchard 😳

I'm in a routine with Summer the Orpington and her chicks the Summerettes each evening. I pick a fresh ripe cherry from one of the trees and share it with them. It's lovely to watch the chicks both eat the cherry, but also drink the juice.

Egret gets the chicken's favourite brood suite in the last few years. Once chicks have hatched, we've had brood hens choose to share this coop. That's why we know it's their favourite.

If you need a few moments of calm today, this is what works for me. It may not work for you, but I hope that it does. Summer the Orpington and her chicks the Summerettes simply free ranging in the orchard. Take a deep breath and enjoy.

Summer the Orpington is a fabulous broody hen, but her tolerance for the naughty chicks appears to be waning from the tone of her voice. It's the chicken equivalent of "Just settle down!" 🥰

Just two friends hanging out together on their ladder. These are two of Autumn and Winter's chicks. They're 6 weeks old, and the two sets of chicks have decided to merge now that both Autumn and Winter have returned to the main coop.

It's flock treat time and chooks of all ages come to take part. The tinies head on past me because they're heading for the large cherry tree where I sit to give them treats. The older hens wait with me in the hopes that they'll get some early grains!

The first look at Spring the Orpington and her chicks who hatched overnight. They're tucked up in their coop, with a net around their area within the orchard where the flock live.

Summer the Orpington's chicks always lead the way out of the coop. The coop is a Chick'A medium recycled plastic coop, available in our UK online shop. There's a small and large size too. Use code CHICK25 to get £25 off englishcountrylife.com

Spring the Orpington teaching her tinies where the good food is. They're still inside their netted enclosure, but later today, they'll be roaming free with the flock. The tinies are now fast enough to keep up with Spring.

I think it's fair to say that Spring the Orpington's release with her chicks into the flock is successful. The scene of the chick standing by the large Orpington, that's not Spring, that's Winter that Spring's chick is stood beside.

Spring the Orpington out and about with the tinies closely followed by Domino the Exchequer Leghorn and one of the Puffinettes 🥰

Is this not the cutest thing that you've seen? Spring the Orpington's tinies frequently climb onto her back, but they are still very small so not every attempt is successful 🥰

Our Orpingtons live in our orchard. The ground below the tree can't be used to plant or grow, so it makes a great use of the space. The trees provide natural shade for the flock, and today, act as a rain shelter.

Spring the Orpington and her tinies roaming with the flock. At 1 week old, they're bold and confident as well as utterly adorable.

We have a new flock look out. This chick is called Tiny Tiny. She was hatched by Spring the Orpington 12 hours later than her siblings so she is a little smaller. She's sassy, confident and so friendly 🥰
