Last weekend, we were able to conduct the first-ever controlled burn in our reconstructed tallgrass prairie! Controlled burns can help encourage seed germination, soil health, and invasive species control. We can’t wait to watch the prairie thrive this year!

yam fans rejoice - new paper lead by Nagnouma Condé from HerbierGuinee and Philippa Ryan Benedetta Gori @KewScience ! 👩‍🌾🥔 fills a big gap in our knowledge of yams in Guinea, and also proof I'm interested in crops other than millets nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pp… 🥳

uses the ethnobotanic study framework from the AGRIHIST project (kew.org/science/our-sc…) also applied to fonio in Guinea and enset in Ethiopia by Philippa Ryan 🤠🌾

A timely interview where I share a bit about my trajectory, which is tightly linked to herbaria. Herbaria are treasure troves of biodiversity that allow us to study the present, reconstruct the past, and make predictions about the future, a crucial skill under climate change.

What an amazing decision to have Gwil star in this video! He is an amazing taxonomist and is recognised as one of the leading legume specialists in the world, bit is also a great human being and has great sense of humour! #TaxonomistAppreciationDay #ImABotanist

My friend Professor Lucia Lohman and I were PhD students in tropical biology together and lived 100 feet apart in St. Louis for many years in 2000s. I taught her how to hide from tornados and she gave me my first Brasilian jazz CD. Now we are colleagues at Cal! I am so lucky.
