The original ceramic marker fixed to the cross over the joint burials of Lieutenant Holt and Sapper Rodford, of 56th Fld Coy RE, held at the Mons Memorial Museum. When the Germans moved their remains to St Symphorien Military Cemetery they were reinterred in separate plots.

Tomorrow, on 25 June, Captain John Patrick Danny will be remembered at the place where, a century ago, he and a handful of former soldiers who held the 1914 Star and Clasp, held their first meeting at which The Old Contemptibles' Association was inaugurated.

It was a real privilege to finally meet Robert and Paul Danny, the Grandsons of Captain John Patrick Danny, on the 100th anniversary of their Grandfather founding The Old Contemptibles' Association at the Red House in Clapton. A simple but poignant commemoration today.

Honours to John Patrick Danny, founder 100 years ago today of the Old Contemptibles' Association for all serving drily inspired by Kaiser Wilhelm's dismissal of "this contemptible little army". Great-granddad here a stalwart of Birmingham's stalwarts start to end. Chum Brownhill.
