Tom Bennett OBE And one crucial domain to have rich knowledge about is the media - its forms, institutions, codes & languages - & the accumulation of theory around it. Yet its study is routinely looked down on & is pushed out of the curriculum, both as a discrete subject & within English.

Good to see this … but we have been calling for this for some time! Particularly good to see the government recognise the connection between media and English too

English should teach us a lot more than what’s described here - with opportunities to study & analyse the language of texts in the world - journalism, blogs, social media etc. It used to pre-Gove. It doesn’t now. And Media Studies has been devalued. That’s the point.
