From Thursday morning.... 🇺🇸A surprising marketing-year low for old-crop US #corn sales, breaking a months-long streak of above-average to record weekly sales. New-crop sales were above average for the week. Decent new-crop sales for #soybeans, but still no China.

🌽Funds cut their net short position in CBOT #corn futures & options last week to about 175k contracts, mostly on short covering. Specs have been bearish corn for two months now, but to nowhere near the year-ago degree (record short). Told you the chart would be back.... 😉

This could be the path to a less bearish domestic balance sheet in wheat, but we will need to see a lot of weeks like this

🌽#CropWatch25 #corn has either pollinated or is doing so now. Only potential issues reported are out of western Iowa, where the top leaf and the tassel are intertwined. Pollination impacts are unclear for now. Otherwise, corn looks good, plenty of moisture for most fields.

🇯🇵🌽USA & Brazil are Japan's top #corn suppliers. USA is still safely ahead of Brazil, but it got close in 2023 on a small US / big Brazilian crop. Jan-May 2025 US exports to Japan were up 14% YOY. Brazil exports to Japan in that same period were near 0 (vs 450kt last year).
