Announced since November: Honda close Swindon plant - 3500 jobs. Schaeffler and Michelin close UK factories - 1400 jobs. Philips close plant - 430 jobs. Jaguar Land Rover cuts - 4500 jobs. Ford cuts - 1000 jobs. There is no such thing as a jobs-first Brexit. We must oppose it.

C++ [[deprecated]] needs to warn when any class overrides a pure virtual method that is deprecated on the base/interface class. GCC does not do this. Are there any compilers that do?

Today I learned changing random stuff until your program works is “hacky” and “bad coding practice” but if you do it fast enough it’s Machine Learning and pays 4x your current salary

C++ isn't going to die anytime soon. But when it does, it will be because it doesn't have a standardized build system and package manager. Across all the users all over the world, how much effort is wasted because of this?

It bugs me immensely that in ML “performance” is used to describe a models accuracy. Consider the following valid sentence: “Performance may be greatly improved by using winograd but at the sacrifice of some performance.” Infuriating that now we have to qualify it in context.

The thing about sea level rise is that it won’t rise level. It’ll be punctuated by dramatic events like these. But exponentially more frequent and intense than it is now. Within our lifetimes.

Ok, is it just me? It's like someone flicked a switch and now twitter is just right wing, divisive, racist drivel. Horrible stuff coming on my feed. It used to be nice techy stuff. Now it's just red vs blue ugliness. What gives? I don't want this stuff.

It's unbelievable how many dynamic companies broke their streaks of engineer-CEOs for the first time in the 2000s, installing their first MBA/finance CEOs, who then promptly made fundamental strategic errors that nixed the company's future, that are now becoming obvious.

Been struggling a lot lately with outdated documentation online for various things. It should not be too hard to make sure that docs and forums posts are tagged with the version so that future generations don’t have to wade through so much noise.
