Congratulations to Rebecca Synnott, who graduated with a PhD from South East Technological University yesterday! Rebecca’s research focused on using DNA tools for the conservation and management of red and grey squirrel populations.

New paper out! 🚨 We show that vampire bats use amino acids from a recent blood meal to fuel RUNNING - a rare mode of locomotion in bats ideal for stalking prey. I’d worry less about your neck and more about your ankles! 🧛🏻♂️ The Welch Lab Royal Society Publishing royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

🦇Our new preprint introduces a high-throughput microarray-based approach to detect #bat IgG #antibodies against >190 human #pathogens. A leap forward for understanding #zoonotic diseases & pathogen surveillance! @CRCordeliers, NMNHS, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences 🦠biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Congratulations to Tapiwa🇿🇼🇮🇪 on successfully defending his PhD! 🎉 His research explored the genomic & proteomic effects of heavy metal exposure on hyperaccumulator plants Eichhornia crassipes & Pistia stratiotes. Wishing him the best in his next steps! #PhDDefense

Delighted to share some of our new work on the molecular characterisation of Irish midges and mosquitoes. Congratulations to Elsie🇰🇪🇮🇪 for publishing her paper in Parasites & Vectors, a lovely collaboration with UCD School of Veterinary Medicine, National Museum of Ireland and DAFM parasitesandvectors.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

And congratulations to Tomás Ó Corráin for publishing his paper 'DNA Barcoding Reveals an Increased Diversity Within the Genus Culex in Ireland' in Biology and the Environment, another nice collaboration with National Museum of Ireland, UCD School of Veterinary Medicine, HSE Ireland and Atlantic Technological University shorturl.at/nlDLc

Congrats to PhD candidate Raysa Hetherington (SETU Biology (Waterford)), who presented her poster at SETU’s Postgrad Research Conference in Carlow last week. Her research integrates morphological & molecular tools for accurate mosquito identification in Ireland.
