.Thomas Gernay, assistant professor in JHU Civil and Systems Engineering, talks with Los Angeles Times about resiliency in the wake of the 10 Freeway fire. "Make sure infrastructure is able to absorb shocks with minimal disruption and rebound … as fast as possible.”

.JHU Civil and Systems Engineering is finishing fall semester with 3D printing project presentations, paper column challenges, and gingerbread house building 🏠🍪 Best of luck to our hardworking students as they tackle next week’s finals!

New year, new CaSE PhDs! Congrats to our latest JHU Civil and Systems Engineering alumni on their remarkable achievement under the guidance of Dr. Somnath Ghosh.

Excited to welcome our new JHU Civil and Systems Engineering faculty who bring unique expertise in #ai and #machinelearning for #civilengineering and #systemsengineering

ROSEI Director @BenjaminSchafer welcomes attendees to the 2024 Summit @EnergyAtHopkins . ROSEI integrates efforts across Johns Hopkins University for energy-related research and transformation to address climate change JHU Civil and Systems Engineering

It's not everyday that a 100-ft tall building is tested under #fire after #shaking. Thrilled to be able to collaborate with many on this project to take cold-formed steel to new heights and model the live fire tests, with support from the U.S. National Science Foundation. More info: cfs10.ucsd.edu

#DesignDay2024 is here! From undergrads presenting their Design Day projects that address real-world problems, to honoring our bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD graduates, today JHU Civil and Systems Engineering is celebrating it all! Cheers to our students, their hard work, and a bright future ahead!

Congrats to JHU Civil and Systems Engineering’s Thomas Gernay on the Best Paper Award at #SiF2024 in Coimbra! Chosen from 200+ submissions "Resistance models for thin-walled steel beams under non-uniform temperature using #ML" was a collaboration with Universidade Aveiro's Carlos Couto and National Institute of Standards and Technology's Qi Tong.

Today we received the visit of Prof Thomas Gernay from JHU Civil and Systems Engineering, who gave an interesting talk on “Optimization in structural #fire engineering of #steel and steel-concrete composite #structures”. Thanks Thomas for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us!🔥

It was such a pleasure to visit ICITECH-UPV and learn more about the outstanding research in the institute. Many thanks Nacho, Ana Ana Espinós UPV, and all for hosting me and for the great discussions. I look forward to our continued collaboration between ICITECH-UPV and JHU Civil and Systems Engineering

Congratulations to Ester García-Castillo Ester García-Castillo for her PhD viva, extensive to her supervisors Ignacio Paya-Zaforteza Thomas Gernay & Prof Hospitaler Very honoured to be part of the committee to judge this excellent thesis on the #fire resistance of traditional #timber flooring systems

Congratulations to CaSE faculty Thomas Gernay on being named to the Structures in Fire (SiF) Conference Series Steering Committee and to Michael D. Shields on being elected #USACM’s Vice Chair of the Uncertainty Quantification & Probabilistic Modeling Technical Thrust Area!

Congratulations to Ester Ester García-Castillo! Thank you Ana Espinós UPV and the thesis committee. It was an excellent viva, and a great contribution to the fire safety of heritage buildings.

Join JHU Civil and Systems Engineering faculty Thomas Gernay for SAFIR Day on September 20. Participants will discuss unique projects in structural fire engineering using SAFIR, including a special presentation from the 2024 Paris Olympics Aquatic Center design team! 🏅 Register: wse.zoom.us/meeting/regist…
