Huge congrats to Ines, whom I've been fortunate to know as undergrad, MRes and next up as PhD student EPSRC CDT rEaCt - Imperial College London... Looking forward to getting cracking* on olefins! Well done to everyone who presented today - you are all winners in my book 🥳 *no actual cracking involved

It's coming home... just over a decade after the first #ChemEngDayUK, hosted by Imperial College back in the halcyon days of 2013.

Second year of exchange visits between student chemical engineers at Imperial College London and ETH Zürich... This officially makes it a tradition in my book!

Plans for collab with Prof Guillermo Rein. 🔥 and newly-minted Dr Harry Mitchell progressing nicely, with a field trip to HSE science & research centre in the Peak District. Guillermo and Harry pictured here showing a keen interest in the numerous hazard warning signs at Tittesworth Water

Great PhD opportunity to develop a more sustainable way of making fertilisers, working with a company that knows how to do these things on a huge scale. Supervised by my office neighbour, font of much chemical engineering knowledge and e-bay aficionado Prof Klaus Hellgardt

😢 I learned a lot from the commissioning of this plant. It reacted ethene from cracking of fossil gas, with steam, over a phosphoric acid catalyst. Now people are interested in the reverse reaction: dehydration of ethanol from fermentation of sugars, to make a sustainable ethene

Shout out for the underappreciated Deborah number. Impossible to see mention of it without Beck playing in my head. youtu.be/rpv-CcRX4X4?si…

Damköhler numbers compare the timescale of physical transport and flow of chemical species, with that of their reaction - the ultimate embodiment of chemical engineering! Fair to say I am loving this series of articles about dimensionless numbers in Nature Chemical Engineering

"I'm good, I promise" Substitute "academia" for "tennis" and prepare for a good laugh/cry at the parallels abound in this article. theguardian.com/sport/article/…

Safety and Loss Prevention playlist #6. Really enjoyed putting this together, and today's first lecture of term, after a year away from it. Becoming increasingly hard to find process safety related tracks without repeating myself open.spotify.com/playlist/513pz…
