A lovely blog by @nihilisttacos on John Ottley from Leicester Cathedral as part of the TobaccoHealthHistory project. Provides an insight into what we can see from the #skeleton. Also check out a previous blog by University of Leicester Archaeological Services on John's manslaughter scandal ulasnews.com/2022/07/29/lei…

We are hiring (again)! Who doesn’t want to join this superstar team (if we may say so ourselves)? ✨👌 We are looking for a second osteoarchaeologist to collaborate with us in interpreting and disseminating the weird and rich data we are collecting:👇 jobs.le.ac.uk/vacancies/9853…

Yesterday, the team visited Kori Filipek at Derby to sample post-med sailors as part of our collaboration to understand past #tobacco use, staining and damage to teeth. Tobacco pipe use, became strongly associated with sailor identity in this period. #archaeology #history

We are very excited to share our research showing the potential of #archaeometabolomics to reveal past phenotypes, here #tobacco use. We hope to next track how this relates to tobacco use rates and disease prevalence in the past! Watch this space. #archaeology #archsci #History

This week, we kicked off a new term of our Intersectional Bodies reading group (led by resident oddkin, Kevin)! We'll explore different ways of thinking about and with teeth in the past. 📚🦷 Hopefully, there'll be lots to chew on and get our teeth into. (It had to be said).
