Thanks to Network Rail railway200 and Loram UK for a preview of the fantastic Railway 200 Mark 3 “Inspiration Train”, currently being finished at Derby. It will launch to the public at the Severn Valley Railway on 27 June. Haulage on the national network will be by GB Railfreight 66s

First Class 99s arrive: The first two 99s (99001/002) for GB Railfreight were unloaded at Avonmouth yesterday afternoon and will soon be taken to the new Stadler depot at Leicester. 30 of these bi-mode locos are on order and the first will enter service at the end of 2025. 📷GBRf

Thanks again to BarrowHillRoundhouse and Deltic Preservation for hosting the Pennine Railway Society’s annual visit to Barrow Hill Roundhouse tonight. Although some locos have left for Derby already we were able to see the GB Railfreight weedkilling train (66739/798) and lots of other interest

To operate with the railway200 Inspiration Train, GB Railfreight 66710 has been outshopped from Eastleigh Works in its special livery. 66719 will follow later this month in a revised scheme. 📷 Arlington Fleet Services

On a glorious day in Newcastle, today was my first chance to try out the Tyne and Wear Metro new trains in passenger service, as well as to ride some of the old units they are replacing. The roll-out has been stepping up, with eight units - 555003-007/020/021/027 - all in service today

Rather different to last Saturday’s trip to Kildonan, this afternoon my tour around the ten least used stations in Britain has brought me to No. 2 in the list, Shippea Hill (near Ely), where the Saturdays Greater Anglia 15.21 Norwich-Stansted Apt calls but very little else does!

Arguably the hardest “least used” station to travel to, and No. 4 in the list is Polesworth, near Tamworth. Only the northbound platform has been in use for the last 20 years and the station is only served by one train a day, the 06.01 Northampton-Crewe, today London Northwestern Railway 350120

Glorious weather today in South Wales to look at new Trafnidiaeth Cymru Trenau Transport for Wales Rail trains and old on the Cardiff-Rhymney line as well as at the electrification progress for a future article. There are a number of long engineering blocks coming up on the route soon to finish the electrification

Tripartite ticket acceptance:From 22/06, in the event of the cancellation of a East Midlands Railway (EMR) NORTHERN 🚆 or TransPennine Express train passengers may use any other EMR/Northern/TPE service within 2 hours of their cancelled train. This applies on all routes these operators share

More tickets for The Greatest Gathering. Alstom has announced that it is releasing another 2500 tickets for each day of August’s Greatest Gathering at Derby this Friday, 27 June at 09.00. See alstom.com/greatest-gathe…

Back to visiting Britain’s 10 least used stations today, and two of them are served by the weekly NORTHERN 🚆 “Parliamentary” train from Stalybridge to Stockport, this morning worked by 150113. And we certainly weren’t the only ones travelling on the line this morning!

There’s a third station in Gtr Manchester that’s in the ten least used stations, forgotten & neglected Clifton on the Manchester-Bolton line, served by just one train a day in each direction Mon-Sat. Today’s 17.52 Stalybridge-Southport calls in the hands of NORTHERN 🚆 769431
