Let’s be clear that the reason for planting conifers is to produce timber. It is not to compete with native broadleaf and rewinding to create the most biodiverse landscape. Honesty here will focus the debate on the various benefits that different types of woodland can offer.

Climate literacy is in short supply. Courses like this are a great addition but all pupils and students should be leaving with a basic understanding of what is happening and why. I would like to see climate literacy become a core subject. theguardian.com/environment/20…
