Just hearing that Marcel Ophuls, director of the magnificent The Sorrow and the Pity, Hotel Terminus, The Memory of Justice & other great documentaries, adjacent to the French New Wave earlier (Banana Peel, a comedy), son of the transcendent Max Ophuels, died yesterday, 97.

Finally this is becoming more common. As I wrote yesterday, this was an above average Memorial Day weekend. Great continued momentum. Several strong films. Not close to a record.
