The hours between 3-4:30 on a Saturday morning have to be the loneliest of the week for intermittent insomniacs like me. But I just coined a new term for seagull I'll use in a poem someday. So I have that going for me.

Trump is shifting deportation focus away from farms, meat packing plants, restaurants and hotels after conceding the recent crackdown has hurt farmers and the hospitality industry A frothing response on Twitter from Stephen Miller is expected shortly: nytimes.com/2025/06/13/us/…

Call your senators and tell them political violence is no laughing matter. Utah's Mike Lee (Mike Lee) needs to be censured by the Senate. NOW. Donald Trump and PA gov. Josh Shapiro survived assassination attempts. Rep. Horton is now dead. Enough is enough. #CensureMikeLee

This will sound stupid to experienced writers, but for the first time ever, I did an outline of a story earlier in the week before I ever wrote a word, built it out over the course of the week, and the 2,500-word result ends up being the best thing I've done to date. Go figure.

This seems like an apt book recommendation for today. - "Persepolis," Marjane Satrapi's amazing graphic memoir of growing up during the Iranian Revolution. thriftbooks.com/w/persepolis_m…

I always end up with pieces for HAD calls that I'd have never written without them. Today I came up with a 325-word poem - too long for this call - called "Ode to the Fully Functional Charger That Was Included And In No Way Resembles My Ex" HAD

First day on the job without my old boss. I felt I needed to make a statement, so I brought a carton half & half, a package of string cheese, and a box of protein bars to the office. I can't really tell you what that statement means.

I've lost my mind. I just sent a 973-word piece about a human cannonball in to Granta. So many things wrong with that picture.

For my Philly peeps...the best Italian restaurant in the city might just be located in an Irish bar called Murph's in Fishtown, caddycorner to Johnny Brenda's at 202 E. Girard. Like your grandmom is in the kitchen. Best arancini I ever tasted. #philly murphsbarfishtown.com

I reached an important milestone as a writer today - deciding what to call the university that is the not-so-thinly-veiled stand-in for one's undergrad alma mater. My Saint Joseph's/St. Joe's is now "Saint Roberts/St. Rob's." My work is done for the day.

I reached a Duotrope milestone this morning - logging in my 300th subbed piece, most of which, frankly I should have never sent out, as they were me last fall/earkly winter when I was trying to find my voice...or with me - "voices." I almost want to apologize to editors for some.

I just wrote a very quiet story about road rage. My work for the day is done. I'm also off...although, having eaten a hot dog I later found out dated from the COVID era, this may not be the most enjoyable of vacation days. 🌭🤮

I woke up to a nice surprise - an acceptance from the Baltimore Review for a piece inspired by my wife's tendency to buy too many bananas. Quite ironically, now that I want to eat one to celebrate, I can't find one Thanks to Barbara and the BR team!🍌Baltimore Review

Really thrilled to have a piece in Dishsoap Quarterly about a man holding up a very odd family tradition having to do with marbles. Inspired by a true story...sort of. Thanks so much, Zoe and Aster! Dishsoap Quarterly dishsoap-quarterly.com
