China classifies AI safety as a national security issue with cybersecurity, biological security & natural disasters. Kwan Yee Ng outlined China’s policies: model registration, safety checks for AI, and AGI safety pilots in Beijing, Shanghai, etc. #AlignmentWorkshop

Niemand lijkt er zich aan te storen, maar ik vind het jammer dat een regeerakkoord geen verwijzingen naar studies en publicaties bevat. Enkele observaties over het energieluik: /1 standaard.be/cnt/dmf2025020…

More Task forces, action plans, recycling of existing funds, more state aid flexibility, voluntary labels, guidance, other future packages, … The European Commission #cid look lame and will likely not address climate investment needs and the competitiveness issues for EU industry.

Illusions about trade with China still run deep in Europe. At a chatham house event yesterday, one economist claimed it was “baseless” to suggest China would dominate most industries. Europe, they argued, would simply retain and develop new comparative advantages. 1/

Sander Tordoir (@sandertordoir) 's Twitter Profile Photo

In this context, the idea that Europe can abandon mid-tech industry and “pivot” to high-tech niches is dangerously flawed. If you give up autos, clean tech, aviation, machinery — what niches are left? Plus, I doubt one keeps niches in these ecosystems once they're gone. 7/

Sander Tordoir (@sandertordoir) 's Twitter Profile Photo

So, the notion that Europe can laissez-faire its way out of this challenge — that industrial policy is unnecessary, comparative advantages will simply reassert themselves — is dangerously complacent. A “do nothing” strategy carries serious risks of its own. 9/9
