Two papers in two days for the #KarikariLab. Paper 1 gives guidelines for blood biobanking to support biomarker studies. Paper 2 reports association of plasma biomarkers with baseline cognition & longitudinal change in the population-based MYHAT study. Pitt Psychiatry Pitt's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center

Really excited to introduce everyone working in the #KarikariLab. I am fortunate to have an amazing group of scientists in the group dedicated to #ENDALZ. Pitt Psychiatry Pitt's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center Thread 👇🏾

Latest publication from the #KarikariLab Karikari Lab. We evalauted plasma p-tau217 and p-tau181 in a mild cogntively impaired (MCI) cohort recruited for a therapeutic trial. Where do plasma biomarkers fit in with current Alzheimer's disease detection? ajgponline.org/article/S1064-…

Neuronal plasma biomarkers in acute ischemic stroke. A masterpiece led by Fernando Gonzalez and our Norwegian collaborators. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/02…

Longtime #Alzheimers physician and expert Oscar Lopez has joined the Alzheimer's Association board of directors. The news marks the first time a Pittsburgh-based scientist and researcher will be on the board. Check out the latest preprint from the Karikari Lab. We evaluated blood 🩸 assays on the NULISA proteomic platform from AlamarBio to detect brain amyloid pathology and neurodegeneration in the ethnically diverse HCP cohort led by @AnnCohenWilson2. Coming soon in Alzheimer's & Dementia Journals.

The NIH funded Brain CHEC study aims to deepen relationships with the Black community in Pittsburgh, toward understanding root cause(s) of high dementia burden among Black individuals. With @AnnCohenWilson2, Jen Lingler, Dara Mendez & other amazing folks. health.pitt.edu/news/encouragi…

In Nature Medicine, we show: 1. P-tau262 & P-tau356 as markers of pre-tangle tau pathology; 2. Identify a core region that defines soluble tau assemblies (STA); and 3. Validate CSF STA assay in autopsy & tau PET cohorts. Congrats to all coauthors! nature.com/articles/s4159…

Thank you Jerome Staal and team for the fast and fair review process. We are confident that these findings will enable early and reliable detection of emerging tau aggregate pathology before mature tangles are formed. nature.com/articles/s4159…
