This is just Trump trying to use any tool at the govt's disposal to punish a private institution for defying him. If Harvard has violated civil-rights law, the remedies are written into the law. Cutting off its ability to enroll foreign students is not one of those remedies.

It’s actually crazy to me how many people don’t get this incredibly obvious point. The US’s elite educational institutions are (soon to be were, perhaps) a total cultural victory.

When Trump and Noem say that they are cutting off visas for Harvard students because of “DEI” concerns, they mean that Harvard admits non white males and has non white male faculty. DEI is just now code for white male supremacy.

We barely even blink at this nowadays, but it's just tyranny. It's one man imposing a massive tax on American businesses and consumers with no legal justification for the action and no underlying constitutional authority. Complete travesty.

One quarter of all startups with billion-dollar valuations have a founder who came here on a student visa. If we had eliminated student visas, Elon Musk would never have started Tesla and SpaceX. The gains to the U.S. from welcoming foreign students are immense.

Wish there was a way to convey to people supporting the admin’s cuts to the National Science Foundation and science funding more broadly that they’re in the process of destroying American science for at least a generation. Many genuinely seem not to understand this is happening.
