This was a bit of an unexpected trip - I was expecting R&D on aquaculture and traceability. Instead, I got a bit of traceability, a big tank of sharks, and some extraordinary preserved specimens. #lostintranslation

I’ve travelled to Asia over a long enough period that I should know better than to order “pungent” dumplings, esp for breakfast. The taste is sensational but the chilli/Szechuan pepper combo has left me coughing in a fashion that is no longer acceptable in the covid era.

Vale Professor Riza Noer Arfani - I was last on a panel with him in October so this has come as a shock. I’ll miss his good humour and intellect - a scholar and a gentleman. wtochairs.org/memory-dr-riza…

Amazing work done by Newcastle School of Law and Justice ‘s Rhanee Rego Rhanee Rego - persistence over so many years to address Australia’s most egregious wrongful conviction. Law school staff were all on stage at graduation ceremony when the result was announced & the news rippled across the stage.

I'm thrilled to be updating my profile details, as I rejoin UNSW Law & Justice on 12 Feb as a Professor in the School of Private & Commercial Law. I look forward to rejoining many of my colleagues, including working with CIBEL @ UNSW Law & Justice & @weaponisedtrade project. But before that, Bali holiday!

I’m very happily back working at UNSW Law & Justice and it’s been a joy to see some new campus developments, but still see some of my favourite signage and favourite tree.

Great piece by Nicholas Ross SMITH & Bonnie Holster showing the value of "eschewing a western-centric understanding of foreign policy for a more relational view based on indigenous knowledge and perspectives (in this case, from te ao Māori: the Māori worldview)" academic.oup.com/ia/article/99/…

I think this is an apt final post on this platform before I migrate fully to Ltoohey on Bluesky. It’s a real honour & privilege to celebrate the 75th anniversary of #Fulbright, an organisation dedicated to dialogue, engagement, research & global understanding. These things matter

With less than a year until MC14, yesterday Australia convened 23 Trade Ministers, joined by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to discuss the future of the WTO A reformed and strengthened WTO will be the cornerstone of the rules-based trading system and our best guarantor of openness and predictability
