This ruling is still upsetting me. One County is going to deny voters the ability to vote OOP. In the 2022 Primary, Pinal County had a polling location that didn’t open for 4 hours on Election Day. This option would help voters in that situation.

Good news for democracy: one of the campus polling locations is packed on the first day of early voting. I’ve been in line for an hour and half now to vote early and am still waiting because of the large turnout. Bad news for me: I wore heels today and these are standing lines.

Very proud of Arizona Native Vote Election Protection for all the work supporting Native voters and the Navajo Nation’s effort yesterday. Also very proud of the Arizona Native Vote Election Protection volunteers that gathered the evidence for these claims and helped protect Navajo voters’ rights during the poll hour extension.

As a voting rights scholar, I professionally complain about the electoral systems in this country and the numerous barriers that people -mainly Native Americans- face when trying to cast a ballot. Election denialism is not a reasonable conclusion or critique of the systems.

Some judges think they’re above criticism. They’re public servants— state actors— and should not be in positions of power if they cannot tolerate academic inquiries and critiques without lashing out at professors. It’s unbecoming and demonstrates poor judicial temperament.

I really thought I was done talking about the history of Indian Citizenship after the 100 year anniversary of the Indian Citizenship Act last year. Whoops!
