Ss aren’t lazy because they opt out of optional work. It’s in case they have the capacity, means, & desire to do it. We can only imagine how #COVID19 is impacting their homes. Ss aren’t lazy because they opt out & teachers aren’t lazy because they take time for their families.

Had a zoom mtg w/ 50 school staff today. We talked about: trauma, values, priorities, removing grades, building connection. ✔️ We didn't talk about: standards, accountability, distance learning, state testing. ✖️ This is our moment to redesign schools. ✊

what if we were just like, “hey what are you interested in learning for the rest of the year? how can we support you?”

I'm a very hard-working tcher when I'm physically in school. I feel like in some ways I'm working even harder w/ remote teaching. It feels non-stop. Our kids are out of the house, & I have absolutely no idea how tchrs w/kids at home r handling this. I would be at my wit' end

I’m in a principal meeting & we are discussin priorities for our schools next year. Here’s a equity hack. ASK TEACHERS. let’s let teachers determine the priorities. Not leaders, not supervisors. ASK TEACHERS.

Just because you went to school it does not make you an expert on education or teaching. I have been to the doctors and to restaurants many times, but I would not consider myself an expert in the medical field or the food industry. Not even close.

A1 : Hiring practices - not nearly enough Ts of color in our classrooms, Leadership Roles, Ss of color underrepresented in gifted Ed, but overpresented in SPED

A1: I also feel that we tiptoe around honest conversations regarding race and culture. I have often heard “I don’t see color.” It is ok to see color, that is natural. It is whether we can see beyond color that matters.#champforkids

A2: As a teacher of color, we have to be strategic in addressing certain issues. Building relationships is one way, but sometimes these inequities must be addressed head on. #champforkids

A3: I LOVE exposing my Ss to the contributions of people from other races and cultures that have helped shape this country and are experts in a variety of fields. #champforkids
