“Comics demystify the space of the hospital” - Hillary Chute at Harvard Radcliffe Institute Graphic Guides need to be in healthcare, & there are infinite ways to use #comics them to also demystify chronic illness for both peds and adults #graphicmedicine

Hillary Chute: #GraphicMedicine is powerful for patient narratives. #Comics express experiences of physical pain that can’t be verbalized. For me, intense #chronicpain erases all language & forces me to sit isolated in that pain when there is no translation Harvard Radcliffe Institute

Just bought this at Kinokuniya USA and excited to read a #manga with a major character with a disability. It’s not something we get to see often & has been popping up more often in newer titles. Especially romances & shoujo. Would love to see it normalized in side characters too

TO THOSE WHO STILL WANT TO AVOID COVID: We’re in a one-way masking world now. Therefore, it’s time to upgrade your respirators. Cloth and surgical masks (and even some KN95s and N95) simply won’t suffice. Here’s a 🧵 on some of the best masks you can get:

I’m at a loss for words at this decision. The efforts we take as #immunocompromised or #disabled people when it comes to trying to live life at our “normal” baseline of wellness aren’t just ignored anymore. They’re crumpled up and trampled on

Book gifts are always the best to open. Another addition to my medical narratives bookshelf: Who Says You’re Dead. Thanks to Jacob Appel MD for sending! #narrativemedicine #bioethics

Listen to my pt 2 interview about getting a 2nd transplant. Life ticking away, accepting major illness & consequences due to the immunosuppressants in order to get an organ, & then not feeling worthy of a 2nd heart bc I stopped taking my meds as a teen tinyurl.com/3vbv67n5

Prepping for #graphmed2024 to start here in Ireland. Dreaming of all the books and comics I’ll get to bring back with me. Anyone have suggestions for favorite new books/comics to check out? #graphicmedicine #comics

Starting off the week with a workshop led by Ian Williams in a room filled with people working in healthcare who love comics. Reminder that people like that exist all over the world and are using comics in fun ways within medicine #GraphMed2024

Thrilled to kick off #GradMed2024 in Ireland. The conference hasn’t even started and I’ve already met incredible people, heard the coolest ideas for comics from scientists, and found collaborators for disability comics. That’s only two hours into Day 1

Found out #graphicmedicine existed during the pandemic and used comics as a way to leave a record of my life when I was dying. Now I’m in Ireland at #GraphMed meeting people I’ve only known through a computer screen or kept their books in my library
