Christmas as a care leaver is tough. This time of year, we are reminded of the trauma of broken early life bonds. To see this further compounded is tough. Young people I care for not given a 'place' at a Christmas dinner. These kids have had enough let downs for one lifetime #CEP

Two years ago today, a group of care-experienced people took the #KeepCaringto18 petition to Downing Street. The timeline of events since then is too depressing to note in full; the gov continues to turn its back on 16-17 year olds in care. But for now I’m remembering the 10k

“We face barriers and stigma like no other group. Most people have family networks that they can call on when they need help, but we don’t have that, instead we face discrimination and isolation. This leaves care leavers open to sexual exploitation and criminal gangs. Imagine

For far too long, care experienced people have been subject to other people’s words in meetings, reports & care files. The exception has been the odd feedback form, where our words are shoehorned in. This #CareDay you can support us to share our own words on our own terms by /1

Samantha Morton dedicates BAFTA Fellowship to 'every child in care'. I'd encourage people to watch the great semi-autobiographical film Norton directed about her time growing up in children's homes in Nottingham, 'The Unloved' (2009). nz.news.yahoo.com/samantha-morto… via yahoonz

BAFTA That was a lovely speech from Samantha Morton. I can't recommend highly enough the semi-autobiographical film she refers to here, 'The Unloved' (2009), and which she directed. It's about her time growing up in children's homes in Nottingham and is both unique and unforgettable.

Stunning speech 👏🏼 “Representation matters.” That’s why we show up as #CEP, so young people see that they can become anything they set their minds to. “You will have a life beyond what Govt statistics laid out for you because you matter.” You do matter & have so much to offer.

Future generations of care-experienced people will credit this moment as the one which encouraged them to pursue their dreams. It is impossible to describe how it feels to be represented on this level. Younger Samantha Morton would be so proud - and so are we. #CEPexcellence

Accessing my care records as an adult was one of the most difficult things I've ever done - but it shouldn't have been that way. Organisations holding precious/painful details about our lives must do better. Pleased to see the ICO addressing this - CEP have your say below⬇️

Great start to the week for our social workers across Bradford Council. Lots of requests for these already! ‘The care system as told by people who actually get it’ - then there is no greater or more urgent learning for us.

Care Experienced people are 70% more likely to die prematurely. We die on average 20 years earlier than any other group. Here is me explaining Protected Characteristics on BBC News 24 when the first council passed the motion. youtube.com/watch?v=BrdsNB…

In the USA in 1943 they produced a film 'Don't be a Sucker' about fascism. It perfectly explains Nigel Farage, Suella Braverman, Tommy Robinson and the entire Right. x.com/GreeneyOfficia…
