Pls kindly check my latest article on the political economy of Chinese risk management in HSR financing. Applying Gramscian state theory, it advances the concept of ex-post risk management and brings domestic politics into dialogue. Open-access.

This is so true and quite apparent in postdocs too. The resource-rich and power-laden mentor subtly turned the Global South-origin postdoc more into a RA instead of a real ECR, being asked to collect data, prepare fieldwork, and share the otherwise key asset aka networks.

🗣️ Recently, there has a surge in scholarly & policy work on the international political and economic order. However, it hasn’t quite studied the social class relations behind the new order. Trissia Wijaya & Kanishka Jayasuriya @fafner100.bsky.social’s new article explores this in detail. 🧵👇

President Prabowo Subianto seems to be rebuilding Soeharto’s New Order one piece at a time, reviving a political order that enabled his former father-in-law, Soeharto, to rule the country with an iron fist for more than 30 years. -- Ary Hermawan indonesiaatmelbourne.unimelb.edu.au/is-prabowo-rev…

Sharing my two cents on Danantara, high-stakes initiative that vividly reproduces high-cost oligarchy politics in the wake of #IndonesiaGelap2025 . What problematic is not only about transparency, but a potential mismatch between strategy and priorities.

New paper. We argue that the ascendancy of Chinese strategic industries is in fact a response to the interconnected crises of the US and China's distinctive variety of neoliberalism, culminated in a distinct political technocracy that reflects changing class factions in China.
