We let the charities we fund run the show. Because they're the experts in what they do. A donor might be an expert in business, or healthcare, or mathematics. But they shouldn't get involved in designing the projects and programmes they donate to.

If you set out to prove a theory and expect success, then the outcome is often predictable. But we want people to experiment and find things that no one could've expected. That's when breakthroughs happen. So we make it clear: 'success' isn't mandatory.

Some people think philanthropy and imagine wealthy people reaching into their pockets and signing cheques. But there are plenty of other ways to make a positive impact by sharing your time, knowledge or skills.
