If you want to understand how the harms of mass incarceration span generations, take a look at how many people behind bars reported having a family member who had also been incarcerated. Incarceration has devastating impacts on family members and entire communities.

Thanks to KHOU 11 Jeremy Rogalski for this essential and thoroughly researched investigation into the use of excessive force in Harris county jail. CW: Graphic violence perpetrated by law enforcement khou.com/article/news/i…

Quote of the decade. Especially for counties using "understaffing" as an excuse to plan jail expansions or new jails or "mental health jails" or "humane jails." ' “understaffing” is not a recruitment issue. It's an untreatable symptom of mass incarceration. '

Over the last two decades, police departments across the country have become more militarized, and no group has experienced an increase in police violence like women – particularly Black and brown women. How does increasing violence in communities make our neighborhoods safer?

Great news for Harris county community members impacted by pretrial detention and the crisis in Harris county jail! Texas attorney general to join efforts to enforce state standards at Harris County Jail houstonlanding.org/texas-attorney…

Thank you Dr. Nath for always speaking up for our communities impacted by pretrial detention. Last year Tx Comm Jail Stand reported 135 custody deaths in our county jails. This year, already 9 custody deaths have been reported. It's time to stop these preventable deaths!

Just weeks after Tx Comm Jail Stand brought in the OAG to file an injunction against Liberty county jail for failing to comply with minimum standards for over 2 years, conditions have led to an uprising by pretrial detainees. khou.com/article/news/l…

How do we know that a custody death is "natural" and "non-controversial" unless it's thoroughly investigated? It's like putting the cart before the horse. Latest in a long line of attempts by Tarrant county Sheriff to undermine the Sandra Bland Act. keranews.org/criminal-justi…

Grateful to the lawmakers who defended due process and stood up for the presumption of innocence in Texas today. At this moment, it's more important than ever to protect our rights. Joe Moody Ann Johnson Dr. Mary E. Gonzalez @jonesjolanda Erin Elizabeth Gámez

There may be a motion to reconsider tonight or tomorrow. Please continue working together to ensure detention without due process never takes root in Texas! #SJR87 #txlege

Shameful. SJR 1 would change the Texas Constitution to require automatic pretrial jailing of trafficking survivors, domestic violence victims, and others here with legal presence. Kill an abuser or trafficker in self-defense? You would sit in jail for years. #txlege
