The Mountain Ringlet (Erebia epiphron) is now on the wing, with the first spotted in Cumbria on the 21 May 🦋⛰️ We're asking visitors and locals in the Lake District to keep their eyes peeled for this elusive butterfly and report their sightings 👉 butterfly-conservation.org/news-and-blog/…

Are you heading up to the Lake District fells this summer? You could help us monitor Mountain Ringlet - England's only mountain butterfly. This small, beautiful butterfly flies in June and July and we need help from hillwalkers to locate new colonies. buff.ly/AZYvjvk

Exciting news! Twywell Hills & Dales has been added to the Northamptonshire Black Hairstreak distribution list today after the transect walker photographed one drying out its wing after recently emerging. There are more details here in this blog post! northantsbutterflies.com/blog/its-time-…

Its week ten! Remember to record the % sunshine for each section of your transect - how to decide if its sunny? If you cast a shadow, that counts as sunshine. #UKBMS50

Its week eleven! Have you started entering your data to the UKBMS website? Get ahead and enter your walks as you go instead of having a big pile to wade through at the end of the season. ukbms.org #UKBMS50

Its week 12! For the keen beans - you can carry out more than one walk a week on your transect - as long at the weather is right. The data from multiple walks will be averaged for analysis. #UKBMS50

Often the 'June gap' occurs at this time of year with the end of spring butterflies flight season occurring before summer butterflies emerge. That gap seems to have been closed this year with good numbers of Meadow Brown & Ringlet on the wing. #savebutteflies
