Tried digging to find a precedent to #StormFloris for August and the closest I can find is 24th August 2005 which was a good bit further north but North Rona Island (98m ASL) had a wind gust of 101 mph. Even Needles Old Battery (IOW) reported 72 mph supposedly.

Very stark increase in wind at The Glen on Barra as the strongest winds of #StormFloris arrive - nowcast models show this corridor of very strong winds after 'relative' calm very well. wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/…

With its large dry slot & pronounced 'hook', #StormFloris is a sight to behold as it crosses the UK this afternoon. If only it wasn't so disruptive, especially for Scotland. Check out those long tails of cloud stretching out across the North Atlantic too. A windstorm with flair.

So.. summer may well make a comeback, BUT we have a tropical system in the mix (TS Dexter). The remnants of Dexter are either going to linger to our SW allowing much warmer air to push up from the near continent and keep us drier OR be picked up and erode the ridge that tries

The 00z GFS goes for a prolonged heatwave, starting from this Sunday, lasting till 21st August. Some less hot days in the mix, but a fair long run of high 20s/low 30s, especially across southern parts of England.
