Teachers: The remarkable performance by Owen Cooper in ‘Adolescence’ would not have been possible if Drama had not been on the curriculum. The sidelining of creative arts’ subjects is of great concern - theatre, drama, performing arts, art, film are essential to our culture.

5 yrs ago, today, children went into lockdown. This is a shout-out to Head Teachers. Nobody understood the crushing responsibility, sacrifices, or fears you faced for your communities...Front and centre, ensuring your communities were safe/ creating hubs. You are awesome ❤️

My Opinion piece in this week’s Schools Week, calling for a “New Language for School Improvement”, one that moves the focus away from “compliance, control, monitoring and inspection” and towards “creativity, support, development and quality assurance” is out now! Feedback please!

A great privilege to spend today working with Headteachers and Governing Board Chairs Central Bedfordshire Council exploring how we can support all involved in the leadership of our schools; thanks to all who joined us and to all who facilitated the sessions! #CentralBedfordshire NGA For Schools & Trusts #VisibleGovernance

Thanks to @IainDalem LBC for inviting me to take part in his show this evening in which we explored #schoolattendance, #pupilbehaviour and #educationalengagement; we need to urgently rethink how well equipped a 20th century schooling system is to meet 21st century need!

A great week: I've worked with 3 great governing boards Mary Exton School , GeorgeStreetPrimary and #GreensandFederation, had an op-ed piece published in Schools Week and spent a day working with Heads and GB Chairs in #CentralBeds with the support of Central Bedfordshire Council. Thanks to all!

In my view, the main reason we’re living in an age of ‘over diagnosis’ of mental health issues, is because we have chosen to ‘under invest’ in community development and well-being.

I am concerned about the increase in special units being created in mainstream schools under the banner of ‘inclusive education’. I am told by DfE insiders that politicians love it. My worry is that, in some contexts, this may be yet a further move to segregate some learners.
