UMI today hosted the anticipated Public Policy Dialogue on Diplomacy in the Great Lakes Region, uniting policymakers, scholars, and civil society leaders to examine challenges facing diplomacy in East and Central Africa.

Hon. Henry Oryem Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs – Chief Guest, attended the event alongside the UMI Director General, represented by Dr. Kasozi S. Mulindwa,Director of Programs and Student Affairs who emphasized the importance of dialogue in shaping public policies

During the dialogue, UMI launched its Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy and International Relations course, aimed at nurturing future diplomats with the knowledge and foundation needed to engage in global affairs and strengthen Uganda’s international presence.

The dialogue forms part of UMI’s broader commitment to national development through leadership development, capacity building, and evidence-based policy discourse. It provided a platform for knowledge exchange and called for renewed efforts to strengthen Uganda’s diplomacy.

Speaking at the Public Policy Dialogue,UMI's own Dr. Michael Galukande emphasized that international relations are fundamentally shaped by the strength of national relations and noted the need to confront "nuisance variables" that disrupt regional cooperation.

The dialogue reinforced the importance of open and informed engagement in addressing the region’s ongoing political and security issues, highlighting the need for continued collaboration to promote lasting peace with diplomacy and international relations playing a central role.

The Uganda Prisons Service has today passed out 60 of its officers who undertook the Intermediate Command and Staff Course at the Prisons Academy and Training School in Luzira.

This marks the successful completion of the third intake of the course (ICSC )2024–2025, designed to enhance leadership, operational planning, and strategic management capabilities within the Service.

The colourful pass-out ceremony was graced by the Hon. Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Gen. David Muhoozi, senior officials from the Uganda Prisons Service, representatives from sister security bodies, and academic institutions including UMI and Makerere University.
