Our next shout-out goes to @heelinthegut, Professor UNC Department of Medicine. Dr. Sheikh was nominated for being adept as a mentoring coach and helping trainees tackle challenging projects.
To start off our next week of mentoring shout-outs, we're honoring Jeanne-Marie McPherson, PhD Candidate in UNC Genetics PhD. Jeanne-Marie was nominated for serving as a strong role model to her mentees.
We'd like to give a shout-out to Alex Bastian, PhD, Postdoctoral Scholar UNC Lineberger. Dr. Bastian was nominated for how well he brings a teaching approach to the lab.
Prof. Michael Love of UNC Genetics PhD and UNC Biostatistics is receiving our next mentoring shout-out. Dr. Love was nominated for being an advocate for his trainees.
To close out this week of mentoring shout-outs, we're honoring Jesse Niehaus, PhD, alum of the UNC Neuroscience Program and current Postdoctoral Fellow in UNC Neuroscience Center. Congrats to Dr. Niehaus!
The mentoring skills of Cole Martin cannot be eclipsed. This PhD Candidate in UNC Pharmacology is receiving today's shoutout for his ability to help mentees feel like they're active contributors to research.
Our next mentoring shout-out is for Prof. Laura Raffield in UNC Genetics PhD. Dr. Raffield was nominated for coaching mentees through managing their projects and priorities.
A big shout-out today for Ian McCabe! Ian is a PhD student in Cell Biology and Physiology at UNC, and his nominator described him as a "fearless" scientist when it comes to new techniques.
Prof. Tim Elston of UNC Pharmacology is receiving our next mentoring shout-out. Congrats to Dr. Elston for creating an engaging and collaborative research environment for his trainees!

Today's mentoring shout-out is for Dr. Jeremy Cohen, Senior Research Scientist UNC Neuroscience Center. His mentees appreciate his continued guidance through every stage of their projects.
A big mentoring shout-out to Dr. Elizabeth Gurysh, Research Scientist in Pharmacoengineering & Mol Pharmaceutics (DPMP UNC). Her nominator wanted to celebrate how she shows mentees how to both do great science and fulfill personal goals.
To round out the week, we're honoring the mentorship of @mwolfganglab of UNC Microbiology and Immunology Department and the Marsico Lung Institute. Dr. Wolfgang received a shout-out for coaching students through their projects and their career goals.
Leading our last week of mentoring shout-outs is Erin Steinbach, Assistant Professor UNC Department of Medicine. Dr. Steinbach was nominated for being a role model and a dependable support for mentees.
The last mentoring shout-out of the year goes to Sam Wolff, PhD. An alum of UNC Neuroscience Center, Dr. Wolff is an Assistant Professor in the Purvis Lab, UNC Genetics PhD, and the UNC Computational Medicine Program. Of his many skills, Dr. Wolff is a patient and encouraging mentor.
