It was inspiring — as always — to be received by President of Ireland Michael D Higgins during my visit to Dublin. It was an honour to convey to him, on behalf of UNHCR, my respect and gratitude for the extraordinary support provided by Ireland over the years to the cause of refugees.

Ireland is one of UNHCR’s strongest partners — I was happy to thank #Taoiseach Micheál Martin for the Irish government’s unflinching support across all key areas of our work, and for being a vocal champion of the United Nations, of multilateralism and of international cooperation.

As part of a great visit to Dublin I had an excellent discussion with #Tánaiste Simon Harris TD — we agreed that Ireland’s strong support for a rules-based, multilateral system is invaluable in a crisis-ridden world and remains a beacon of hope for all victims of war and violence.
