On the 77th anniversary of United Nations Peacekeeping, we honour the courage of peacekeepers and reaffirm UNIFIL’s vital role. Our strategic partnership with الجيش اللبناني remains essential to stability along the Blue Line and to building a path toward lasting peace in South Lebanon.

Today, UN humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon Imran Riza visited UNIFIL's area of operations to see firsthand the devastation caused by the recent conflict. UNIFIL has been supporting UN and other partners to ensure humanitarian assistance gets to the civilians who need it.

Pleased to meet with Speaker Nabih Berri and Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Hajjar in Beirut today. We discussed the situation in south Lebanon, UNIFIL's coordination with الجيش اللبناني, and peacekeepers' patrolling activities - both independent and alongside Lebanese soldiers.

I reiterated UNIFIL's commitment to working toward security and stability in south Lebanon, supporting communities, and our adaptation to support the parties in their implementation of resolution 1701.

Yesterday, UNIFIL and الجيش اللبناني (LAF) signed an MoU, with France’s support, to help meet the army’s needs. This reaffirms our strong commitment to the LAF. We will continue supporting Lebanese authorities as part of our mandate – essential for stability in south Lebanon.

Today, UNIFIL Head Aroldo Lázaro hosted الجيش اللبناني Commander Gen. Haykal at UNIFIL HQ. They discussed the importance of strong coordination, freedom of movement for peacekeepers, and full LAF re-deployment in south Lebanon to help restore stability under Resolution 1701.

.United Nations Peacekeeping Chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix arrived in #Lebanon yesterday. He will meet with UNIFIL peacekeepers, key international interlocutors & relevant authorities to discuss how peace operations are implementing their mandates in increasingly complex and challenging conditions.

Today, I met with UNIFIL leadership in Naqoura as well as our brave peacekeepers on the ground and at sea to discuss their vital work in promoting security and stability in the region. I am very proud of their remarkable dedication in this very challenging context.
