Postdoc Simone Masoch spent 2 weeks working on the Waterman Hills Detachment Fault in the Mojave Desert, CA. His goal was to learn how the fault formed, map the fault rocks, a look for signs of #earthquakes in the early to mid-Miocene (22-18 million years ago!). #FieldWorkFriday

When is an earthquake an aftershock? After the mainshock, stress released from slip on a the fault can transfer the local area. Aftershocks are part of the “readjustment process” as the stress finds a new equilibrium.

Congratulations to Dr. Baker Perry and his team for their successful installation of five weather stations and a glacier flux station on Aconcagua in Argentina! The highest station was installed at 22,769 feet or 6,940 meters above sea level.

Excited to share the below news about a new weather station network on the highest mountain in the Americas. Argentine partners at IANIGLA - CONICET led by Pierre Pitte were exceptional. Excited to watch/analyze data! Tom Matthews Mount Washington Observatory (MWOBS) National Geographic Society

Over 200 years ago, the famous mathematician Joseph Fourier described a phenomenon related to how heat is transferred between materials. That phenomenon has now been documented for the first time in high-energy-density plasmas, where matter exists at extreme pressures and
