As part of my visit to Japan 🇯🇵, I am holding a series of meetings to discuss human rights concerns in the #DPRK. Yesterday, I had a productive conversation with Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister in charge of the Abduction Issue.

Yesterday, UN Human Rights Expert on #DPRK met with families of missing persons whose disappearance may be related to DPRK and listened to their voices and concerns.

.Elizabeth Salmon emphasized that, under international human rights law, the families themselves are also victims of human rights violations.

Elizabeth Salmon The families of victims of #EnforcedDisappearances have the right to truth, the right to effective access to #justice and the right to reparations. She reminded the families that they should not carry guilt for the disappearance of their loved ones.

Elizabeth Salmon One family member said she is ready to fight, but there are high walls to reach. Another said simply, “We only want to see our family.”

어제 #조선민주주의인민공화국 인권 상황에 관한 유엔 특별보고관은 해당국과 관련되었을 가능성이 있는 실종자 가족들을 만나 이들의 의견과 우려를 경청했습니다.
