Starting 2025 the right way 🌊, today we tried to catch #shrimp 🦐🎣 to assess the prevalence of #parasites. We didn't have much success, but at least we went to the beach 🏖️😅. There's more next week, so stay tuned!

This week, we aim to obtain #cercariae from #Hydrobia spp. and #Littorinalittorea snails 🐌. To induce emission, we subject the snails to a temperature shock 🥵🥶 using water baths and then monitor for cercarial release. See much more about it here: untie.web.ua.pt

Over the last few weeks, we've been working hard to get ready for the #megacampain 2.0! We'll be repeating our #bivalve 🦪 sampling of various species from last year in #RiadeAveiro, but now evaluating #eDNA 🧬, broadening the range of outputs of the project

Recently, we have been infecting cockles with #Mytilicola 🪱 for a new mesocosm experiment. Additionally, we conducted a boat trip 🛥️ to a site with high prevalence of #trematodes in the #sporocyst stage infecting #cockles, hoping to infect our #gobies 🐟 with #metacercariae.

🌊🌎❤️ On #WorldOceansDay, we joined the 1st “Living Ocean: A Sustainable Future” Symposium at João Afonso School, organized by #Escolaazul (shorturl.at/GUHrv). Dr. Luísa Magalhães (CESAM-UA) talked on Ria de Aveiro’s rich biodiversity and the importance of #bivalves 🦪
