Since debris removal began in October 2024, Wilmington District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have moved more than 1.2 million cubic yards of right of way and waterway debris.

As of Feb. 8, 2025, we've moved more than 1.2 million cubic yards of debris in Western North Carolina. That's about 89,169 dump trucks.

🚨 Milestone reached! USACE has cleared 4+ million cubic yards of debris in Western NC after #HurricaneHelene. That’s enough to fill the Empire State Building nearly three times! A huge testament to the scale of the mission—and the teamwork powering recovery. Wilmington District

Mission complete (7 days ahead of schedule). The Dredge McFarland has completed an emergency dredging assignment for Wilmington District. During her deployment, she dredged more than 335,000 cubic yards of material in North Carolina, opening the navigation channel to -44 feet MLLW.

SAD leadership hosted its 2025 Hurricane Rehearsal along with agency partners to prepare for the upcoming season. Participants included FEMA U.S. EPA Civil Air Patrol 🛩️ National Park Service

USACE and its contractors have removed 6 MILLION cubic yards of hurricane debris in Western North Carolina. That’s enough to fill 800,000 school buses, which if lined up end to end would stretch over 5,300 miles, roughly the distance from New York to Tokyo!
