Nominees for the Youth Girls, 13 & Over – Field: Winner Elaine Wang, Westside Track Club; Avelyn Burger, Waukee Track Club; and Madison Green, West Des Moines.

2019 Youth Boys, 13 & Over - Track: Max Doran, Mississippi Valley Track Club. He won the 800m, 400m Hurdles, and long jump at the Association Championship meet in the 15-16 year old age group.

Mason Allen, Clarion 2019 Youth Boys 13&Over–Field winner - Mason Allen, Clarion. He won discus and javelin at USATF Iowa Champs in Boys 13-14. His throw of 31.42m (103-01) was good for first, his 34.08m (111-10) won the jav. At Region 8 USATF meet, he placed 7th in Boys 13-14.

2019 Youth Girls Cross-Country Winner-Claire Helmers, Flyers Track Club-Claire had an excellent cross country season as a member of the Flyers Running Club, winning all meets she competed in. She was the state champion in the 11-12 year age group at thes Association Championship.

2019 Youth Boys Cross Country - Cooper Briggs, Johnston Running Club. Cooper had a great 2018 cross country season. He won every meet he competed in, including the USATF Iowa State meet for 8 and under boys, where he ran an 8:15.60 .

2019 Open/Masters T&F Female-Britta Wey, Johnston-At USATF Indoors she won her age group in the 60m, long jump. At Iowa Outdoors, she won the 100m, 200m, LJ, TJ, and steeplechase. At Masters Nationals, she finished 1st in TJ & 4x800m; 2nd-200m & 400m; & 3rd in 100m and long jump.

Late yesterday (Monday) afternoon we were notified by Grinnell College that “out of an abundance of caution and in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Grinnell College is cancelling all external events on our campus” This includes our meet scheduled for Sunday.

We made efforts to secure a different location. Unfortunately, on short notice it was not able to happen. Because of that we find it necessary to cancel the 2020 Indoor meet.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience, and we know many of you were looking forward to sharing the day with us and getting your season started. We were looking forward to seeing many of you again. Let’s hope that all of these precautions pay off.

USATF recently announced that the state and regional JO meets are cancelled for 2020. This does not mean that if the current situation with COVID-19 should improve and we would be able to have a meet that we would not be able to have a meet for the Iowa Association.

It would just not have the JO label. Everything remains reliant on safety and social conditions as determined by the CDC, IDPH, and state/local government agencies. we will continue to keep you updated as we know more. Stay safe!
