Carah Ronan, a fifth-generation Montana farmer, never planned to return to the farm. Then life took a turn when she and her husband, Zach, decided to move back to Montana in 2021. Three years later, Rodi Farms is flourishing, thanks in part to our support. nrcs.usda.gov/state-offices/…

Ready to level-up your resource management? Apply for our Conservation Stewardship Program. For example, do you plant a single species cover crop but aren’t seeing desired results? CSP enhancements can help you plant multi-species cover. nrcs.usda.gov/programs-initi…

At the time of our agency’s founding, timing was vital. In 1935 Hugh Hammond Bennett stood before a Congressional committee, speaking at length on the importance of soil health. As he filibustered, he knew that soon, a massive dust storm from 2,000 miles away would arrive in D.C.

Locally led conservation is tied into the heart of our mission. We can’t celebrate 90 years of conservation work without a shoutout to National Association of Conservation Districts. This partnership goes back to 1937 in North Carolina. Since then, we’ve worked together to protect soil, water and working lands.

NRCS was born out of troubled times — the 1930s Dust Bowl. Dust storms ravaged the Nation’s farmland, stripping away millions of tons of topsoil. Ninety years later, we're still committed to helping farmers save soil and address natural resource concerns. storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/a3a0db…

Our roots run through the soil. Soil conservation has been foundation of our work for 90 years. Why? Because nothing grows without soil and an inch takes 500 years to form! Celebrate Earth Day by exploring the major milestones that've occurred while an inch of soil was forming.

It’s May Day! 🌻 🌷 🌺 🌹 🌼 Did you know that May Day’s origins are from agriculture? May 1 marks the halfway point between spring and summer. People believed that celebrating would bring a bountiful season of crops and livestock.

Did you know that about half of what makes healthy soil is the water and air that exists in the open space between stable soil aggregates?! Save time, water, and fertilizer costs by skipping the tilling in your garden this season.
