The civil society covenant is a perfect opportunity to reset the relationship between government & civil society groups. Civil society is keen to contribute to government programmes, but must also have the freedom to speak out & act as a critical friend. civilsociety.co.uk/voices/in-dept…

Bizarre claim from Govt spoksperson that 'strict rules' apply on donations from Unincorporated Associations (UAs). UAs don’t have to verify donor legality, & parties only need to check if the UA is UK-based/active. No scrutiny of the original money source. 'Strict'? Hardly! 🤔

"Last week, Elon Musk claimed that without his $300m donation, “Trump would have lost the election”. Does the Minister accept that democracy in this country should not be for sale & that millions of votes should count for more than millions of pounds?

Local councils are the front line of public perception. When potholes aren’t filled, rubbish piles up or social care deteriorates, people notice. By failing to reverse years of local govt neglect, ministers are gambling with their & the country’s future. leftfootforward.org/2025/06/labour…

Keir Starmer needs to crack down on misconduct in politics, John Major says. He’s quite right. Cleaning up politics and restoring public trust go hand in hand. Business as usual won’t wash. via The Guardian 👇 theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

We agree with Sir John Major on much: the influence of big donors, the importance of an independent Electoral Commission, no Free Passes for donors and wannabe House of Lords legislators Tackling these issues won't cost much money or take much time Let's get on with it

Big donors don’t give to political parties for nothing. They know they’ll be able to wield outsized influence. A cap on donations would ensure it is the people, not a handful of mega-donors, who are in charge. unlockdemocracy.org.uk/blog1/2025/6/1…
