Last week saw celebrations as the Medieval Warhorse book was launched! This major project involved manuscript and imagery research, zooarchaeology (including isotopes, GMM & DNA), studies of horse armour and equipment, and landscape studies. Congratulations to the authors!

It's officially half-term and today was filled with visitors and features! Our work in the trenches is starting to take shape. In Trench 3 we're excavating a robber trench where one of the manor walls was removed. Killerton National Trust Archaeology

In trench 8 we have found a few sherds of probably Iron Age pottery, in our linear feature. Along with lots of flint this suggests it is prehistoric in date! National Trust Archaeology Killerton

In trench 6, our students have been finding and revealing wall foundations and boundaries in the robber cuts! As the foundations of walls are becoming easier to spot, we are beginning to wonder how all these walls were connected when the manor house was still standing!

Some finds fresh out of the ground today! In trench 6, we've been finding lots of animal bone and what some staff on site believe to be a key! We will need to x-ray to find out. Then in trench 3 we have found the remains of a wall, and also some beautiful pottery from France!
