Why should Medicare negotiate prescription drugs prices? 1/ In 2003, we passed a law that Medicare must cover prescription drugs (Part D). This was good. We simultaneously BANNED them from negotiating the price of the drugs. This was insane— it was a bad provision to start with.

The Department of Surgery lost a cherished member of the team this week after a long illness. Katie Iles joined us as a resident in 2018. We grieve her loss and she will be deeply missed, but we will remember her and the contributions she made to our department.

I’ve yet to be disappointed by Dr. Manning’s threads, but this one especially struck a chord. Many of my “weak ties” require a trivial investment, often no more than a daily courtesy. My returns of good cheer and friendly faces all through the hospital are immeasurable :)

A great thread! The social dynamic is very important, and something that’s hard to establish as a student or resident when the setting and players change so frequently.

1/18 🤔Why does the diagnosis of Streptococcus bovis bacteremia immediately raise the specter of colon cancer? If colon cancer leads to barrier disruption and translocation of bacteria into the blood, shouldn't E. coli bacteremia raise the same concern? Is S. bovis unique?
