One of the most reliable ways to improve our mental health is to help others. After being randomly assigned to do just 3 acts of kindness a week, people felt significantly less depressed, anxious, and lonely. Lifting others up elevates us too. Giving shows us that we matter.

Well this is depressing. New study shows that many learning strategies used by students are not effective and what's worse is that in some cases, they are being recommended by their teachers. Important work by Richard Watkins and colleagues ⬇️ mdpi.com/2227-7102/15/1…

What's the "sweet spot" for spacing out practice? for students scoring below 35% they likely need more instruction or support first, while students scoring above 75% probably won't gain much from spacing out their practice. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.100…

Remote work doesn't thwart productivity. It boosts focus. Data: Government workers are 12% more productive when randomly assigned to work from home. They're more efficient where it's quiet. Most people aren't shirking from home. They're escaping distractions and long commutes.

Taking phones off the internet boosts mental health. People were randomly assigned to block mobile internet for 2 weeks. They socialized, exercised, and read more—and became happier, less depressed & anxious, and more focused. Being unglued from devices is good for well-being.

Exposure to nature doesn’t only make us happier. It makes us kinder too. Data: Just recalling or seeing photos of forests, oceans, landscapes, or the stars is enough to evoke awe and motivate helping. The outdoors strengthens our connection to something larger than ourselves.

If you (asynchronously) learn by explaining through a digital device, should you record a voice message or a video? And does the learning-by-explaining effect depend on learners' extraversion? Our new (open access) study sheds light on these questions @ sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Putin got everything he wanted from Trump: the red carpet in the U.S., treated as an equal to boost his standing at home, a chance to pretend he wants peace, no new sanctions, all while he keeps bombing Ukraine. A shameful day for America.
