"Unfortunately, Canada is not yet in a position of leadership in [Open Science]. The Tri-Agencies do not provide any dedicated funding competitions for OS research nor is there public facing monitoring to track our performance and benchmark for improvement."

Addressing #AntimicrobialResistance is a crucial effort, because the clock is ticking. Every day that passes, the threat increases.   The world needs a comprehensive and well financed action now to prevent drug resistant disease developing & spreading.   We have no time to waste.

Despite the heat outside, we will be cooking up a storm re #OpenScience indoors at Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), talking about drug discovery through the TRIDENT preclinical platform and ViMI's drug discovery ecosystem!

Sobering reality of fragment-based drug discovery. 23 world class scientists were given a structure with fragments bound, and challenged to use this information to predict a potent inhibitor(s) from a pool of 6B compounds. Each had 100 shots on goal. Outcome? There “may” be hits.

All 1739 compounds shipped by Enamine in Kyiv and predicted by 25 CACHE#3 participants to bind SARS-CoV-2 NSP3 Mac1 are now received in Toronto. Screening by HTRF and DSF Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) and by crystallography at UCSF's James Fraser (A$AP J) about to begin! bit.ly/41HIW4X

I am shocked & appalled that the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, a sacred space honouring the 60,000 Canadians who gave their lives in Europe during the First World War, was vandalized. We are working with French authorities to find the person responsible. My statement:

AlphaFold touted as next big thing for drug discovery — but is it? To find out “what is needed is a transparent process like CASP”. We agree, and the CACHE hit-finding benchmarking challenge is well underway. Hype meets reality! nature.com/articles/d4158…
