In an acute visit, a patient seemingly out of nowhere said, “I know my weight is probably affecting this too.” I paused, “Actually, I don’t think this problem has anything to do with weight so I wasn’t going to bring it up, but I also don’t see weight as an indicator of health.”

I’m over elitism in academia—I’m tired of advice to publish w “top” presses & journals (that are inaccessible to most), I’m not impressed by affiliations—I don’t want to succeed by these standards. I care about what I am, my work is, doing to create a less poisonous world.

Starting off the week right with a sweet treat for the lab. I made “Rice CRISPR Treats” to commemorate our first knockout in the lab. Gotta celebrate all the wins! Recipe here: smittenkitchen.com/2009/11/salted…

Most students don't need another thing on the CV. They need more money, more autonomy, and better working environments so that they can do what they're already doing with less stress.

Did you know there is NIH funding for available to support a student transitioning from a toxic or unsafe lab space to a new lab? Faculty can apply for “Re-entry and Re-Integration Supplements”. I had no idea this resource existed! #AcademicTwitter #phdchat

I've been a bit busy to realize how much has changed for me in the past decade. Just 10 yrs ago I just graduated high school. I dropped out to take care of my grandma but resumed a couple years later when she passed from Cancer. Now here I am as a 5th yr Cancer Bio PhD Candidate.

I have family attending my defense, including 4 kiddos aged 3-13. I need to show mouse data. If they happen to be paying attention, how do I explain without traumatizing them and making them hate me for being an animal torturer? Parents in #science, how do you handle this? 🐭🐭🐭
