A reminder that the VRMA spring tipping contest continues today with Michael Manley the clubhouse leader after the first two rounds.

The spring tipping contest will next run on Sunday at Sandown. The competition will not cover Moonee Valley on Friday night or Mornington on Saturday.

Condolences to the friends and family of Tony Bourke who passed away on Tuesday morning. He was aged 81. Tony was a past president of the VRMA, serving a two-year term from 1983 to 1985. Tony worked at The Age for 42 years. He was chief racing writer for 20 years.

Deane Lester’s funeral tomorrow at Cranbourne racecourse. One of Deane’s 1st media jobs was with our stable (Winning Post/Best Bets). He was our Cranbourne trackman. Later, he encouraged us to give the late Rod Griffiths the role. Deane loved Best Bets.
