Interested in a direct approach to history teaching? 'Lean lessons' with booklets, whole-class reading, explanation, and lots of questions? Jacob Olivey and I are leading a webinar series for Historical Assoc in June – and it's cheap! Just £50 for all six webinars. Link below! 👇

Webinar 1 was great fun! Thank you to everyone who watched live, contributed so many interesting points, and asked great questions. 🙂 It's still possible to sign up for the series (which gives access to all webinar recordings, including today's).

I dunno...is year 9 too early to start funnelling students towards "technical" (read: non academic) routes? Haven't we tried stuff like this before?

I just looked at the most recent persistent absence data for a few other countries: Scotland 31%, Wales 37%, United States 23% - all have had a huge post lockdown spike - odd for anyone to leap to England’s curriculum as the primary cause here.

Great headteachers can paper over many of the cracks that come from poor funding, teacher recruitment, disengaged families/communities and constant attendance battles. The best policy decision any government could make would be to grow a generation of exceptional heads.

Imagine a university graduate who is interested in teaching for a bit, and then moving to a different career. There is a training route that provides them with this option. Would you rather them follow that route, or not teach at all?

It was such a great project to present these webinars with Jacob over the last six weeks. We hope people have found them interesting and useful! Short overview below 👇

Not enough people have pointed out that Streeting and Phillipson are running literally opposite policies. Wes is trying to do academies to the NHS, Bridget is undoing academies. Wes wants doctors to be able to trade pension for salary, Bridget is banning teachers from doing so.

Will be interesting to see who applies for this in the tendering process. I'm not 100% convinced we need something like this, as I think the roadmap to better behaviour is already pretty well established.
