Playing in a match for the The Authors CC versus an Artists XI on the weekend I was intrigued by this bat wielded by one of our opponents. He said it was a century old! I have to say, at times, running around in the field, I felt older than the bat. (For the record: Authors won.)

Speaking recently at The Society of Authors launch of the Author Care toolkit...It's a tough industry. The toolkit encourages much needed dialogue, between authors & agents, publishers, publicists. No simple solutions, but honesty & an understanding of constraints- on both sides- helps.

Two recent crime reads I've really enjoyed. Both beautifully written, both using the local environment as a canvas. THE NIGHT LAGOON by Jo Morey (rhymes with story) (great debut!) and OUR LAST WILD DAYS by Anna Bailey.
