If you intubate you need to read the #PREOXI trial! -n=1301 people requiring intubation in ED/ ICU were randomized to preoxygenation with oxygen mask vs non-invasive ventilation (NIV) -NIV HALVED the risk of hypoxemia: 9 vs 18% -NIV reduced mortality: 0.2% vs 1.1% #CCR24 🧵 1/

MD Saudi Respiratory VentBusters SCCM Respiratory Care Section VC-CMVs. Machine triggered breaths followed by Pmus, which defines early trigger. The presence of Pmus during expiratory hold rules-out the entrainment phenomenon (reverse trigger), so the natural pt's rate is just matching the mechanical RR. Next step is to ⬇️mandatory rate.

Classification of modes up to the 2nd level of discrimination. Further discrimination is needed, since many modes share the same control variable and breathing sequence. Feel to mention any modes and its manufacturer not included in the graph Eduardo Mireles-Cabodevila CCF Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows Saudi Respiratory

IMHO, trials of n=1'000,000 comparing VC vs PC could be made, but differences in relevant outcomes should NEVER be found. This would only mean that the proficiency at using the "bad/negative" mode is questionable. Any thoughts?sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

We developed a browser-based tool to predict ventilation impairments such as iPEEP buildup, hypoventilation, and desynchronization due to the tube resistance (also during bronchoscopy). Check it out: fabrylab.github.io/Bronchoscopy/

ICU Snaphots: Young patient, postoperative day #3, recovering from cardiothoracic surgery, still on the ventilator What mode is this one? What is the TAG? What - if any - asynchrony do you see?
