Excellent work by Stijn Bruneel on the detection range by #acoustic #receivers in an #estuary. Knowledge on the detection range, and the factors affecting it, is crucial to understand the data and take proper conclusions. 👉doi.org/10.1186/s40317…

New paper! OTN's scientific director, Robert Lennox, led a multi-country study on aquatic animal tracking. This work—which began as part of ideasOTN in 2019—showcases the power of collaborative telemetry networks and serendipitous observations. Read more: doi.org/10.1111/ecog.0…

I got a pet #eel for 15 yrs. Got it as 20 cm, but he's now 45 cm. Last week I noticd black dots on lateral line (neuromasts) typically for #silver eels. I guess it reached a condition ready for migration and is in pre-migrant stage? No seasonal change in tank except 🌡️. Thoughts?

Just ridiculous how a company is limiting proper science 🙄. And this after numerous meetings and talks. Even more, I wasn't even properly informed about the fact that their new NextTrak receivers still don't have the open protocol by default. Innovasea what are you doing 😵‍💫??

Does anyone know which #disease these Eurasian #perch might have? #fungus? #parasites? It appears to occur on a large number of perch caught by #anglers in the #Netherlands and looks like some kind of fibre-like tissue. Robert Arlinghaus (moved to Blue Sky) perhaps? Sportvisserij Vlaanderen 🐟

First #OpenProtocol (OP) transmitters have arrived! Will be used for twaite #shads in April 🥳🐟 within the LifeWatch Belgium tracking network and beyond!

What an experience yesterday in The Netherlands! We tagged Allis #shads with acoustic transmitters. Probably the first time this species was tagged through surgery for long-term tracking! European Tracking Network Wageningen U&R ATKB Rijkswaterstaat LifeWatch Belgium

And so far the twaite #shad tagging with #OP tags is running smoothly 🥳🐟! Currently 30 shads in two days! 85 more to go 🙃

📢📢 ETN community! We need your help! ETN is working on developing merch (😍🥳) with sales going to support ECR within the #tracking community. Have your say on the designs by voting for your top 3 species designs (by 20 June)! 😎👇 forms.gle/BngxZSbdSnomAv…

Last week I learned through family that one of our pop-off data storage tags we used to track #eels in the ocean is on display at the National Fisheries Museum in Flanders. How cool is that!

New paper👆 urging for knowledge on the potential impact of EMFs 🧲 by subsea power cables⚡️on diadromous fish 🐟 migration. There are many knowledge gaps, while the demand for renewable energy is rising and so is the construction of offshore wind sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Check out our latest paper where we found that European #catfish 🐱🐟 aren't sedentary at all! In fact, they can travel tens of kilometers in a river catchment! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jf…

Two years ago we were involved in the confiscation of illegally caught eels. Although such confiscation happens relatively often, there is no protocol on how to deal with confiscated eels for reintroduction. Urgent need for European coordination! authors.elsevier.com/a/1khbEbiU24%7…

Our silver eel biotelemetry meta-analysis is published in FishandFisheries ! We gathered biotelemetry datasets on eel migration from 18 locations across Europe to analyse their migration behaviour. What a collab! Check it out at doi.org/10.1111/faf.12…! Eel photo Pepe Brix Doc Photography
