My lab SISSA in Trieste, Italy, is looking for a postdoc to join us! We do systems neuroscience in rodents with an ethological/comparative angle. Behaviour, viral tracing, ephys (Neuropixels), 1P imaging... Are you an experimentalist with some experience in one of these?

I have spent the last 2 days at the retreat of the BCCN Berlin. At a beautiful location we practiced work-lake balance. I shared about my work and my career with students, had several chats with @WritinScientist and was inspired by Mariya Toneva. Thanks!

For the past 10 days I visited the lab of Alan Emanuel to develop our project on modeling and understanding computations and activity in the somatosensory system responsible for fine touch. I also trained a bit my low threshold mechanoreceptors (see photo)😀

Happy to present fresh results on multilayer (deep) spiking networks at the spiking network workshop: snufa.net/2024/. It is an effort to better understand computations in sensory pathways. Collaboration with Alan Emanuel , supervised by Prof. Panzeri. Free online workshop!

Interested in making viral vectors, participating in rodent husbandry and maybe other techniques (behaviour assays, stereotaxic surgeries, immunohistochemistry) in neuroscience lab? Get in touch to check if this would be something for you! Details in the picture below.

I presented our (mine, Alan Emanuel and S.Panzeri’s) preliminary model of neural computations in sensory pathways at the SNUFA workshop: m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyzJ_D…. See how to efficiently encode, transmit & transform multiple time-dep. signals across brain areas.

This year I peer-reviewed a small bunch of papers! Two for PLOS Comp.Bio., 2 for PLOS Complex Systems, 6 NeurIPS conference papers and 3 for the ICLR machine learning conference. 💪That was interesting but also quite demanding (on both time and brain power).

In our Learning Club CMC lab (today = Dec 19, Thursday, 2 PM CET), Veronika Koren will tell us about her recent work (elifesciences.org/reviewed-prepr…). If you'd like to attend, send an empty email to virtual-talk-link [email protected] to get the link!

In @elife: Efficient coding in biophysically realistic excitatory-inhibitory spiking networks doi.org/10.7554/eLife.… revision is out 💪. Huge thanks to the editor and the reviewers. Seriously, I never had a first author paper with reviews of such quality and scientific depth

Bag and poster tube packed for CosyneMeeting 2025. Expecting exciting science and discussions, perhaps also at poster session 1 around poster 129: An Efficient Multilayer Spiking Network as a Model of Ascending Pathways.

It was my pleasure to present papers Koren et al., eLife 2024 and the related theoretical paper Koren & Panzeri, NeurIPS 2022 for the Harbin Institute of Technology (China) earlier this week. Thanks to Prof. Chunzhi Yi for the invitation. I think progress in the right direction.

A couple of days ago I presented the eLife paper lnkd.in/eWBUUZjw at the journal club of the lab Development, Dynamics, Disorders, Data Science (4D) of the University of Cambridge. Many thanks to Kayson Fakhar and his colleagues for their interest for a nice discussion!

I am proud to have our paper where I worked as the last author accepted at the notorious ICANN conference. With Matin Urdu, Matías Lorenz and Ching-Peng Huang and with advice by Prof. Panzeri, we prove that firing rates cannot explode in efficient spiking networks.
